Ursuline College Celebrates Social Justice

Ursuline College celebrates Social Justice featuring Avery Friedman, CNN Legal Analyst and Ursuline College Visiting Professor in Constitutional Law. Ursuline College has created The Avery Friedman Human Rights Scholarship for students in its Legal Studies Program. Avery has served Ursuline as a Visiting Professor in Constitutional Law and teaches women and the law, civil rights, employment law, constitutional law and law and the media. The Ursuline Sisters’ motto “to transform society through contemplation, justice and compassion” has been the centerpiece of his instruction. His students find in Avery both an intellectual and moral model of the good that can be done through the law.

The Wall Street Journal calls Avery Friedman a “walking reference source” on civil rights law. He has lectured at over three dozen law schools including Stanford, Berkeley, Duke, Michigan, Tulane and the University of Texas and is the first living white male to be inducted into the Ohio Civil Rights Hall of Fame. He has been recognized in TIME, The New York Times and USA Today as a nationally distinguished civil rights lawyer and law professor. Referred to as a “true freedom fighter” by the NAACP, Avery has been CNN’s Legal Analyst every Saturday for nine years with an audience of over 3,000,000 viewers coast-to-coast each week.

The first major donor to the Avery Friedman Human Rights Scholarship was the Cleveland Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. In addition to other donations, all funds from the November 17th event will go toward the scholarship.
